From Sr. Lucy, SV, at the archdiocesan Family Life Office:
Dear Friends in the NY City area,
As you know, March 27th is our Family Life Conference honoring the legacy of Cardinal O’Connor – see here for more info www.flrl.org.
I am trying to making it easy for NYC residents to attend since it will be in Yonkers and sometimes travel outside the city can be a challenge. I can make arrangements to get a bus leaving from Manhattan but need a minimum of 22 people in order to do so.
Please let me know if you think your parish might have people interested in going on this bus. I can arrange the bus to leave from a particular Church with the greatest number of people. We will handle registrations.
Here are more details:
Location of pickup yet to be determined. Pickup time would be approx 8:45am. Conference begins at 10am (people would have to attend Mass locally if they wished) or I can arrange an even earlier pickup (7:30am) to get people to the Seminary for 8:45am Mass.
Size of Bus Cost per Person:
22 passenger $19
32 $16
54 $14
Let me know if you would like bus transportation. Thank You.

Forwarded letter from Dr. Mielnik & Dr. Beiter of the Gianna Center for Women:
Dear Supporters,
We are excited to be seeing more patients every day, serving in particular the Catholic women of New York, many of whom had stopped going to the doctor because of being rejected, mocked or derided for their Catholic or prolife values.
Everyday, women thank us for being here to serve them in a way that respects their deeply held beliefs. They have been delighted that we offer to pray with them and acknowledge the importance of faith in healthcare. We affirm them in their choices to be chaste before and within marriage, to use natural family planning, and to choose life-giving alternatives to abortion and IVF.
Women have already begun sharing stories of the harms caused by past abortions and past wounds from having gone through IVF and have begun the journey to healing. And already, 25 couples suffering from infertility have begun the process of treating this difficult disorder in a way that respects human life and the dignity of marriage. And yet, as we have faced so many times before, another major obstacle to providing care has arisen.
Yesterday, the New York Post published a story, confirmed by numerous sources, that our parent company, St. Vincent’s Hospital, may be sold to a competing healthcare system which has threatened to shut down the hospital in 90 days. News stories are available at the following links:
New York Times
New York Post (1)
New York Post (2)
We are currently trying to rally public support to “Save St. Vincent’s,” which is the LAST CATHOLIC HOSPITAL in New York City. It is the only hospital that does not perform abortions — and one of the only places that couples given an adverse perinatal diagnosis can go for care that does not pressure them to abort their child.
We are encouraging all New York residents to contact the State Health Commissioner, as well as their legislators, by phone or email to oppose any proposals which would close St. Vincent’s Hospital.
The State Commissioner can be contacted at:
Richard Daines
Commissioner
New York State Department of Health
Corning Tower
Empire State Plaza
Albany, NY 12237
Or you can contact him through NY Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s website.
Ladies in particular, if you have been served by St. Vincent’s Hospital or the Gianna Center, please write and share your experience of feeling that St. Vincent’s alone, as a Catholic hospital, is the only one you have been able to turn to for care consistent with your values.
Thank you for considering this. Please share this information with anyone you think may be interested. I will keep you posted as things develop.
Above all, please keep us in your prayers. Regardless of the outcome, I, my partner Dr. Beiter, and our staff are committed to making sure 100% prolife, Catholic healthcare is available for women in NYC.
God bless,
Anne Mielnik

A coalition of Catholic young adult groups in New York City welcomes you to this first annual pilgrimage. Our city has been blessed throughout history with great saints, great churches, and holy Catholic men and women, and we invite you to join us in celebrating their legacy and finding inspiration in their life stories.
On March 20, 2010, we will walk from the shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, near Manhattan’s northern tip, to the shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton , close to Battery Park. Along the way, we will visit other churches connected to New York’s Catholic history. The event is free but you must register for the pilgrimage at www.pofnyc.org. Browse our website to learn more about the famous churches you can visit, the saints you will honor, and the routes you can follow. If you wish you can make donations to worthy charities such as Pilgrimage of Our Children’s Future and St. Joseph’s Seminary on the web site.
